Cleaning Products I Use at Home (Updated 2026)

Cleaning Products I Use at Home

I get asked the same question a lot: “What do you actually use at home?”

So here it is, no sponsored placements, no products I’ve only tested once for a review. Just what’s sitting in my cleaning closet right now, organized by category, with a quick note on why I chose each one and when I reach for it.

I’ll keep this page updated as things change. If I find something better, I swap it out.

Vacuums

My Everyday Pick: Dyson V15 Detect

Best Cordless Vacuums for Shag Carpets
Dyson V15 Detect Plus Cordless Vacuum
  • 2 Advanced cleaner heads and 4 attachments to clean up high, down low, and everywhere in between. Plus wall dock and charger.

If I had to keep just one cleaning tool in the house, this would be it.

The V15 handles everything — carpet, hardwood, upholstery, even ceiling corners, without switching machines. The laser dust detection sounds like a gimmick until you actually turn it on and realize what you’ve been leaving on your floors. Design is clean, build quality is excellent, and I’ve had zero issues with durability. Honestly, the only thing to complain about is the price.

It’s not cheap. But it’s the one purchase in this entire list that I’ve never second-guessed, not even once.

Best for: Daily use, multi-surface homes, anyone who wants one machine that does it all.

Dedicated Carpet Vacuum: Shark Navigator NV360

Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe
  • POWERFUL SUCTION FOR CARPET & HARD FLOORS: Clean carpets and hardwood floors with strong multi-surface suction. This lightweight upright vacuum cleaner lifts dirt, debris, and pet hair for a complete…

When I want to do a proper deep vacuum session on carpet specifically, I use the Shark. It’s an upright, it stays in one spot, and it pulls out embedded dirt in a way that even the Dyson doesn’t quite match for carpet-only work.

It’s also significantly more affordable. If carpet is your main concern and you don’t want to spend Dyson money, this is genuinely a great machine.

I’ve had mine for three years. When I was buying, I went back and forth between this and a few other models in the same range before pulling the trigger, mostly because people kept calling it the go-to carpet vacuum. After three years of use, I get why. Deep cleaning on carpet is excellent, especially with pets in the house. Affordable, stable, no random issues. That’s all I need.

Steam Cleaner

Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner

Dupray Neat Steam Cleaner with 17-Piece Kit
  • 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥-𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: Generates superheated steam up to 275°F/135°C to effectively lift dirt, grease, and grime from a variety of surfaces without using harsh chemicals. Clean, sanitize, refresh, detail, and deodorize multiple surfaces naturally with just water
  • 𝟏𝟕 𝐌𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬: Versatile kit is engineered for whole-home cleaning, from grout lines and ceramic tile to sealed floors, appliances, car interiors, carpets, upholstery and more

High Pressure Steam Cleaner

Honestly, this one deserves its own category.

I picked up the Dupray Neat mostly for mattress sanitizing, but it’s ended up being one of the most-used tools in my entire cleaning routine. Mattresses, sofa cushions, stubborn grease on the stovetop, baked-on residue inside the oven, car upholstery — it handles all of it with nothing but water. No chemicals, no scrubbing, just hot steam doing the work.

The 275°F steam is genuinely impressive. It loosens things I’d given up on, and the 17-piece accessory kit means there’s a right tool for every surface. I reach for this more than I expected to when I first bought it.

If I had to pick one purchase that actually changed how I approach cleaning the house, this would be it. And for what it does, the price is surprisingly reasonable — one of those things where you wonder why you waited so long.

Carpet Cleaning Machines

Full-Size Deep Cleaner: BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro

Full-Size Deep carpet Cleaner

BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro
  • PROFESSIONAL DEEP CLEANING FOR PET MESSES: Removes the toughest pet stains & odors.

This is the machine I bring out for full carpet washes — the kind of deep clean you do every few months, not every week. It’s heavy, it takes some effort to set up, and it’s absolutely worth it.

The results are on a completely different level from spray-and-blot methods. It flushes water deep into the carpet fibers, then extracts it — along with everything that was trapped in there. Combined with the right cleaning solution, it handles pet hair, old odors, and set-in stains better than anything else I’ve used.

If you have carpets throughout the house (or pets), this is the machine I’d point you toward.

Best for: Full carpet deep cleans, pet households, large carpeted areas.

Portable Spot Cleaner: BISSELL Little Green Multi-Purpose

BISSELL Little Green Multi-Purpose
  • AMERICA’S #1 BRAND IN PORTABLE DEEP CLEANING: Trusted by over 7 million households.

This one lives by the couch.

It’s small enough to store under the sink, pulls out in seconds, and handles spot cleaning on carpet, car seats, and upholstery surprisingly well for its size. I’ve recommended this to more people than any other product on this page — it’s just genuinely useful.

Best value-for-money in my entire cleaning kit. If you’re not ready to invest in a full-size machine yet, start here.

Best for: Quick spot cleaning, car interiors, upholstery, apartments with limited storage.

Spot Sprays & Stain Removers

FOLEX Instant Carpet Spot Remover

FOLEX Instant Carpet Spot Remover
  • WORKS ACROSS MANY SURFACES – It safely lifts stains from upholstery, carpets, rugs, and other water-safe, colorfast materials. The formula is water based, non-flammable, and odor free for worry-free…

This is what I grab first for basically any stain — coffee, wine, mud, grease, mystery stains I can’t identify. No rinsing required, no residue, and it works fast.

I’ve gone through more bottles of this than I can count. It’s the first thing I mention when someone tells me they have a carpet stain. If you only buy one spray, make it this one.

Best for: Fresh and dried stains, everyday carpet accidents, quick treatment before they set.

Rocco & Roxie Enzyme Cleaner

Rocco & Roxie Enzyme Cleaner
  • Certified Gentle & Safe Pet Carpet Cleaner Solution: Chlorine free, color safe, no hazardous propellants or residue; safe to use around pets and children; certified safe for all carpets with a Seal of…

My puppies are the reason this product exists in my house.

Regular cleaners mask pet odors temporarily — enzyme cleaners actually break down the compounds causing the smell at a molecular level. The difference matters more than you’d think: a scent that lingers, even faintly, draws dogs back to the same spot. This one eliminates it properly.

I use this exclusively for pet-related accidents. For everything else, FOLEX handles it. But for anything involving the dogs, this is non-negotiable.

Best for: Pet urine, pet odors, households with dogs or cats.

These go into the BISSELL machines above, not for direct spray use.

Rocco & Roxie Professional Strength

Rocco & Roxie Professional Strength
  • Certified Gentle & Safe Pet Carpet Cleaner Solution: Chlorine free, color safe, no hazardous propellants or residue; safe to use around pets and children; certified safe for all carpets with a Seal of…

When a cleaning session is pet-related, this goes in the BISSELL ProHeat. It pairs naturally with the spray version above and handles deep odors better than any other solution I’ve run through the machine. If your carpet has absorbed pet accidents over time, this is what you want.

BISSELL PET PRO OXY Formula

Sale
BISSELL PET PRO OXY Formula
  • INSTANT & PERMANENT TOUGH STAIN REMOVAL: Quickly removes stubborn stains like red wine, coffee, cola, and pet messes (including urine and mud) for visibly cleaner carpets, rugs, and upholstery.

My rotation option for non-pet days. The oxygen-based formula works differently from enzymes — I find it better for general stains like food spills, dirt, and tracked-in mud. I alternate between this and the Rocco & Roxie solution depending on what I’m dealing with that day.

Microfiber Cloths: MR.SIGA

MR.SIGA Microfiber Cleaning Cloth
  • ULTRA SOFT MATERIAL & SCRATCH FREE – Ultra soft and highly absorbent microfiber cleaning cloths, great for cleaning windows, kitchenware, car or other delicate surfaces.

Sounds boring. Genuinely one of the most-used things in my house.

I use these for blotting carpet stains, wiping down the stovetop after cooking, cleaning the car dashboard, and basically anything that needs a cloth. The microfiber picks up more than regular towels and doesn’t leave lint behind on carpet — which matters more than you’d think when you’re blotting a stain.

I buy them in bulk and keep stacks in the kitchen, bathroom, and cleaning closet. Any clean white cloth technically works in a pinch, but I switched to microfiber a while back and genuinely won’t go back.
